Job Description

Title: Second Shift Superientendent

Department: Operations

Location: Albert Lea, MN

Reports To: Director of Operations

Status: Exempt

Wage Range: $75,000.00 - $105,000.00

Supervision: Supervises sanitation and production employees on 2nd & 3rd shifts

Hours: Full time, 1 pm – varying end time. Hours may vary depending on workplace requirements and special projects.

Mrs. Gerry’s Kitchen, LLC was founded in 1973 in Albert Lea, Minnesota. Since then, the company has expanded in every way! Mrs. Gerry’s offers 120 different products including pasta salads, coleslaws, salad kits, specialty salads, and sides, including the popular Premium Mashed Potatoes that were introduced in 2005 and, of course, the recipe that started it all – Mrs. Gerry’s Original Potato Salad. Today, Mrs. Gerry’s Salads and Mashed Potatoes are sold coast to coast. In 2020, Mrs. Gerry’s was purchased by Sequel Holdings, LLC. SUMMARY

Ensure that all employees are completing their daily tasks with accuracy, safety and efficiency. Monitor product and sanitation with a special eye on employee and food safety. Conduct inspections of employees’ work. Conduct investigations and ensure compliance with federal and state requirements. Collaborate with leadership on special projects. Serve as the link between the Company’s management and the employees.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.

  • People Management: Direct and build strong teams in professional manner.
  • Recruiting and hiring
  • Assist in monitoring and track absence status per Federal and State laws.
  • Maintain notes and document issues.
  • Safety compliance: follow and enforce all safety and food safety procedures.
  • Disciplinary procedures:Investigate, write and issue disciplinary actions.
  • Employee relations: Communicate and address issues while developing a positive relationship with employees.
  • Training: Monitor and assist with training of employees to ensure all policies and procedures are being followed.
  • Monitor work to be done for the day, add-ons, etc. and communicate changes with team leaders, supervisors, operators and other employees.
  • Assist in production activities to help insure it is running smoothly and quality is being met.
  • Work together with Director of Operations, Day Production Manager and Production Controller to establish and maintain efficient production.
  • Support and make management decisions.
  • Throughout the year monitor progress and reward employees where appropriate. In conjunction with the company CEO/Director of Operations, calculate pay increases, evaluate with supervisor each person and explain reasons.
  • All other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This position has supervisory responsibilities of exempt and hourly team members in on second and third shifts.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Three years minimum of related experience in Plant Sanitation, Production Supervisor and Food Safety requirements.

Minimum of 5 years of supervisory experience preferred.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Ability to obtain certifications as required including, but not limited to: First Aid/CPR, Boiler License, Forklift/Pallet Jack/Sky Jack. .

Technology

Intermediate skill level of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Teams, and Publisher.

Able to learn new technology/software as it applies to business and the position (HRIS-ADP, Canva, Employee Communication System (ECS), SnagIt, vendor sites, etc.).

Typing 30+ words per minute preferred.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Fluent in English, both written and verbal. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, standard operating procedures, policies, and manuals. Ability to write routine data reports, correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group settings to other employees of the organization. Bilingual abilities a plus.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw on valid conclusions. Apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

TRAVEL

Travel to local sites and venues.

Employee must have good communication, creativity, critical thinking, problem solving, and organizational skills. The employee is required to be extremely confidential, uphold a high level of integrity, and demonstrate ethical behavior with all the information they may encounter in Human Resources.

All personal protective equipment (PPE) is required (in the plant and areas defined as PPE essential). In most cases this position is working in the office.
