The University of Louisville Philanthropy & Alumni Engagement is seeking a Prospect Research Analyst II to assist with donor prospects for the Health Science Campus (HSC). The Prospect Research Analyst provides full-scale prospect development services throughout the prospect life cycle. Using the account management model, the Prospect Research Analyst primarily manages the HSC fundraising teams and individual fundraisers, as assigned. The assigned unit can change as needs arise. The Prospect Research Analyst collaborates with leadership, front-line development officers, and volunteers on pipeline management and activity, works independently on research and prospect identification projects, and collaborates on other prospect-related projects. Essential Duties & Responsibilities include utilizing advanced research and analytical methodologies to identify, qualify, and rank a viable pool of highly qualified prospective donors and volunteers in support of the University’s strategic fundraising activities, including the annual, planned, major, and leadership gifts fundraising programs, and providing a recommended course of action. Collects, synthesizes, analyzes, and interprets biographical and financial data to produce briefings and reports that inform decision-making; these reports include calculated wealth estimates and capacity ratings (via forecasting and formulaic estimates) that indicate the ability and propensity of individuals, corporations and foundations to make philanthropic contributions to and serve in volunteer capacities for the university. Advises central development and constituent gift officers on comprehensive portfolio management and routinely reviews fundraising benchmarks with emphasis on strategic movement of prospects through the fundraising cycle (e.g., cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship). Reviews prospects with senior leadership and front-line fundraisers. Develop strategies related to fundraising readiness. Develops and executes proactive alert strategies for a core group of prospects and maintains an active awareness of the important news and events involving them. Collaborates and consults with campus contacts, including fundraisers, fundraising leadership, and other campus partners on matters related to portfolio development, solicitation strategy formulation, and information gathering through peer screenings. Provides consultative services and orientation sessions on research methodologies and resources to fundraisers, faculty, and other key campus partners involved in fundraising. Preferred Qualifications include advanced degree (particularly a master’s degree) in a related field, knowledge and understanding of current trends in philanthropy as well as fundraising principles, experience (typically 2-4 years) in prospect/development research, prospect management/tracking within an academic, nonprofit, corporate, or consulting environment, experience (typically 2-4 years) with web-based and online research databases and techniques, and experience (typically 2-4 years) using relational databases. Competencies required include understanding of business intelligence concepts, strong analytical acumen, technical knowledge of research techniques and database operation, logical thinking, intellectual curiosity, strong organizational skills, oral and written communication skills, project management skills, and knowledge of fundraising principles.
